| Vision
"The wise use of natural resources through locally led voluntary conservation". Mission "To direct the Natural Resource Conservation Program to assist landowners and managers with technical and financial resources to plan, implement, and maintain practices which are essential to good land stewardship while protecting and insuring respect for landowners and to coordinate the support of government agencies to assign priorities to resource management efforts". The Coos Soil and Water Conservation District is one of Oregon's 45 Districts assisting landowners in resource conservation. Since 1962 the Coos SWCD has worked to integrate economics and environmental health for the benefit of the people of Coos County. The District assists landowners with matters such as developing and implementing farm and woodland management systems that contribute to resource conservation and production efficiency. The Coos SWCD is under the administrative oversight of the Natural Resources Division of the Oregon Department of Agriculture, and works closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, and local Watershed Associations. The District is governed by a board of directors elected on a nonpartisan ballot at the general election. Directors serve four-year terms without pay and come from a range of occupations. Members of the board provide the local knowledge and experience needed to assess and prioritize resource concerns at the county level. The District is an essential interface between landowners and local, state and federal agencies providing assistance. |
